Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-10-14

This policy explains what information is collected when you visit skillbyexample.com ("SkillByExample", "we", "us"), who collects it, and the choices you have. In short: we have no accounts, no sign-up, no comments and no contact form, so we never ask you for personal details. Information is collected automatically by the analytics, advertising and hosting services listed below.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which lessons are read, how visitors arrive (for example from a search engine), and roughly where they are and what device and browser they use. Google Analytics collects this through a script on every page and stores identifiers in first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to two years by default. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses; it uses them briefly to derive an approximate location. We see only aggregated reports, and we do not use Google Analytics to identify you.

You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data on any site by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser. Google's own handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

The site shows ads served by Google AdSense, which pays for running the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits. Where personalised ads are not allowed or you have declined them, Google may still use cookies or similar technologies for non-personalised ads, frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement.

You can control this:

Google explains how it uses data from sites like this one in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Hosting (Cloudflare)

The site is a set of static pages served by Cloudflare Pages. To deliver a page and protect the service from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical request data, such as your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time, and keeps it in logs under its own privacy policy. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check for automated traffic. We don't use these logs to identify visitors.

Google Fonts

The site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google's servers, which receive your IP address and user agent. Google Fonts does not set cookies. See the Google Fonts privacy FAQ.

Your theme setting

If you switch between light and dark mode, the site stores one value, theme (either light or dark), in your browser's local storage so the choice survives your next visit. It never leaves your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes it. Search runs entirely in your browser against a file served by this site; what you type into it is not sent anywhere.

Email

If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you write, and use it only to reply. We keep messages only as long as needed to deal with them, and never sell or share them.

Your rights in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, the legal bases are: your consent for analytics and advertising cookies; and our legitimate interest in delivering and securing the site (hosting logs) and in answering email you send us. You have the right to access, correct or erase personal data about you, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Because we hold no accounts or profiles, most data about your visit is held by Google and Cloudflare rather than by us, and is keyed to cookies or IP addresses we cannot link to you. For data they hold, the controls linked above are the quickest route. For anything we hold, such as an email you sent, write to us at the address below.

Google and Cloudflare may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell personal information for money. Allowing Google's advertising cookies on the site may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law. The categories involved are online identifiers (cookie IDs, IP address) and internet activity on this site. You can opt out of personalised ads with the controls in the advertising section above, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser. You also have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and you won't be treated differently for using these rights.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If the services the site uses change, this page will change with them, and the effective date at the top will be updated.
